Godawa includes a useful appendix where he discusses how a Christian should judge a movie. Tolkein are examples of Christians who write in the Romantic genre. Godawa then looks at spirituality in the movies and shows how various movies have presented brina certain take on what they view the spiritual world to be like.

I believe that many in my generation absorb their beliefs and worldview from the movies they watch without even knowing it. This is probably the best book that I have read on how to watch movies with your eyes wide open. If one would expect someone to have the situational background to write on a Christian worldview analysis of films, then Godawa would be it. All in all, this was an excellent read and I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in films and wants a deeper understanding of an image and emotion driven generation. The first extreme is “cultural gluttony,” where a Christian watches a movie, no matter how sordid with little awareness or interest in the message that he is being subjected to by that movie.
Pretty good book overall that does a really good job of showing the worldviews that are present in different Hollywood films, as well as providing some tools for how we should go hollywpod analyzing films as Christians.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Act 2 of the book, which focuses on three worldviews that’s the undercurrent of many contemporary movies: The Denouement at the end, in my opinion, should have been at the beginning, as Godawa cleared up some of his recommendations in the book. I think my favorite thing about this, or perhaps the bfian unexpected thing, is that Godawa is really eorldviews not to cast out films that have worldviews decidedly uollywood from our own. Overall, a decent starting point, I suppose — especially the earlier chapters on various philosophies.
Godawa takes the position that movies both reflect and influence society. I appreciate the fact that he had other information available, but I didn’t look up one reference.
I’ve always been one to enjoy a good movie, including one that makes me think about the story, it’s message, or whatever it was attempting to convey.
