I love loved alchemist and Victoria decides to die, but I couldn’t like this book at all. My fault, I should have read some reviews before assuming it’s about a witch in the historical or fictional sense.

The Witch of Portobello was ;ortobello first introduction to Paulo Coelho and I thought since The Alchemist seemed so highly regarded that it was going to be a good read.

Paulo Coelho fans, people who loved The Celestine Prophesy and similar books. I started out with very high hopes for this book and I did love the first third of the book as the main character evolved. I really did not like this book and if I were one to put books down without finishing them this would be one.

In her quest, she opens her heart to intoxicating powers and becomes a controversial spiritual leader in London. Being ds as I am, somehow managed to get through it and was left utterly dismayed and with a very bad taste in my mouth.

Preachy new age-y bullshit, with a distinct undertone of “I’m idealizing feminine qualities, so I can’t possibly be sexist” sexism. I did get where Paulo was coming from and what he was on about, but the book brhxa didnt do it for me and felt kind of pointless.
